Uploading a movie deserve a 10 year prison sentence? Is the American justice system GONE crazy?

Read the article again. The ten years is not a sentence that was imposed. Instead, when congress passed the law at issue they authorized the judge to select a sentence ranging from a small fine to ten years imprisonement. This fellow has not been sentenced yet. The others got a few months. He will probably get a similar sentence. The maximum term is reserved for habitual criminals who run a sophisticated scheme.
