why did Edgar Allan Poe never maaster the art of love and how did that reflect in his writings?

I just wanted to know, why edgar allan poe never truly loved. What stopped him from being able to love someone and have someone love him. Also how did those feeling reflect in his work when he wrote poemson love, etc

  1. Catherine E says:

Edgar Allen Poe absolutely truly loved. He was married for twelve years and he and his wife (Virginia) had a GREAT love. He was beyond devastated when she died young, and many of his writings were based on his almost inconsolable grief.

The poem "The Raven" was written while his wife was dying. The poem is a reflection of the horror he felt at the idea that she was going to die and he was never going to see her again.

The poem "Annbelle Lee" was written about her death, also. It is one of his most famous poems, and is well-known to be a great poem of love and loss.

While he and his wife Virginia had an unconventional relationship, (they were first cousins, and they married when she was only thirteen) no one that knew them ever doubted that they absolutely loved each other. By all accounts, they were devoted and loving and attentive to each other.
